PAL helps poor Brazilian families to acquire a tractor.

PAL has recently helped a settlement of eighteen families to acquire a tractor. The formerly landless families are now able to cultivate their holdings. Previously all work was done manually which made life very difficult for the families.  They now grow beans, corn, sugar cane, coffee, bananas and oranges for personal consumption and sell the excess in the local markets.

The purchase of a tractor was always beyond the means of the families until PAL stepped in and made up the shortfall. The families had been promised part-finance from the local municipal authority. However, the authority reneged on its promise at the last minute. Without the aid of PAL the families would have been unable to purchase a tractor.
